We Are Home Campaign Responds to DHS Announcement on Expedited Removal

Washington, D.C. – Earlier this week the Biden Administration announced it would begin using a process of rapid deportations known as “expedited removal” for certain families arriving at the border.

Bridgette Gomez, Campaign Director for the We Are Home campaign said:

“The announcement on expedited removal is a policy more in line with the Trump/Miller white nationalist perspective than the vision President Biden promised. It is deeply disappointing to learn that the Biden-Harris administration is aiming to fast track the deportation of children and families who are fleeing danger and in the process, eviscerate their legal right to seek asylum. This directive is putting lives at risk. The We Are Home coalition urges the Biden Administration to change course and stay true to its vision of restoring the soul of our nation by upholding our values―which includes upholding the universal right to seek protection.”

We Are Home is a nationwide campaign to fight for immigrant communities on three fronts: prioritizing and demanding a pathway to citizenship for the 11 million undocumented immigrants in America; a moratorium and overhaul of interior enforcement; and broad affirmative relief from deportation. We Are Home is co-chaired by Community Change/Community Change Action; National Domestic Workers Alliance (NDWA)/Care in Action; Service Employees International Union (SEIU); United Farm Workers/UFW Foundation; and United We Dream.
