House Passes Historic Budget: Includes Citizenship for Millions of Immigrants

WASHINGTON, D.C. – House Democrats voted to move the Senate budget resolution forward, thus keeping the $3.5 Trillion package, including provisions to legalize millions of immigrants, on track. The commitment to jobs, care, climate and citizenship to invest in America’s workers and families is historic.

Bridgette Gomez, Campaign Director for the We Are Home campaign said:

Momentum is on our side and our movement is marching full steam ahead.

We commend House Democrats for passing a historic budget that includes citizenship for millions of young immigrants, TPS holders, farmworkers and essential workers.

By including a pathway to citizenship in the budget resolution, Congress is one step closer to advancing long and overdue protections for millions of undocumented immigrants. Citizenship is a policy that has widespread support among American voters and is critical to an equitable recovery from COVID that strengthens our communities and our economy.

Citizenship for millions is an investment in the American economy and will boost wages, reduce deficits, and accelerate GDP growth. Thus, it directly impacts the federal budget.

After 30 years of promises, our community deserves and expects results. We’re one step closer to citizenship and the time is now.”

We Are Home is a nationwide campaign to fight for immigrant communities on three fronts: prioritizing and demanding a pathway to citizenship for the 11 million undocumented immigrants in America; a moratorium and overhaul of interior enforcement; and broad affirmative relief from deportation. We Are Home is co-chaired by Community Change/Community Change Action; National Domestic Workers Alliance (NDWA)/Care in Action; Service Employees International Union (SEIU); United Farm Workers/UFW Foundation; and United We Dream.
