We Are Home is Thankful for the Biden Administration’s Decision to Designate TPS for Cameroon

And calls on the administration to continue on this path and designate or redesignate TPS for other eligible countries

WASHINGTON – We Are Home applauds the Biden administration’s decision to grant Temporary Protected Status (TPS) to Cameroon. This is a long-overdue decision that immigrant advocates have backed for years. Now is the time for the Biden administration to continue on this path and grant TPS designations and redesignations to other eligible countries going through similar humanitarian crises.

The following statement comes from Bridgette Gomez, We Are Home Campaign Director.

“Today, we finally celebrate the Biden administration’s decision to grant Cameroon TPS. It’s a compassionate and humane step towards living up to the pledge of being a nation of “justice for all.” Cameroon has been going through an ongoing armed conflict and violent attacks for years. Today is a big win for thousands of Cameroonian adults, families, and children who have been waiting in limbo for years to have a better and safer way of life. Thousands of Cameroonians living in the U.S. will finally receive the protection and stability they desperately need. TPS will allow Cameroonians to remain safely and work legally in the U.S.

We are headed in the right direction, and we must continue on the same path to provide the much-needed TPS to other countries going through wars, natural disasters, and other humanitarian crises, just like we did for Cameroon and Ukraine. No one deserves to live in terror of having to live looking over their shoulders or returning to a country where their lives are at risk. President Biden and Secretary Mayorkas have the authority to grant TPS to eligible countries to support foreign-born immigrants living in the U.S. who are unable to return home safely due to dangerous and unsafe conditions or circumstances. We urge the Biden administration to continue on this path and designate or redesignate TPS to countries that desperately need it.”
